Biography

Heidi E. Brown, PhD, MPH, is a professor of public health in the University of Arizona College of Public Health. She received her PhD from Yale University in Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases and MPH from George Washington University in International health Promotion. After post-doctoral positions in the Department of Zoology at Oxford University and the Bacterial Diseases Branch at the CDC in Fort Collins, CO, she began working at the University of Arizona.

As an epidemiologist, she works to understand the spatial and temporal distribution of disease and how to translate science into actions that prevent future outbreaks. Her viewing health as driven by environmental influences led to diverse interests including vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, infectious causes of cancers, and the effects of extreme weather on health. As communities face changing environments, she works with county and state health departments and vector control agencies to develop effective adaptation plans to prepare for or prevent the future disease burden in their local region.
