BMISR Services

The BMISR continues to be a leader in development of diet and activity data collection mobile health (mhealth) technologies. The BMISR utilizes smart phone applications and other mhealth tools to improve data quality and ease respondent burden and offers training on the use of these platforms for real-time data capture.

BMISR Services include:      

Consultation: 

  • Theory to guide behavior change and interventions
  • Research design, methods, implementation and results reporting
  • Assistance with grant text for instrument or method selection/administration (see our BMISR Methods)
  • Evaluation services for cancer training programs 

Data Collection

  • Eligibility screening and participant enrollment
  • 24-hour dietary and physical activity recalls by telephone
  • Bilingual telephone-based surveys of Patient reported outcomes (PROs) including, but not limited to sleep, quality of life, and tobacco use
  • Body composition assessments using bioelectrical impedance, DXA and anthropometrics measures
  • Accelerometry including accelerometer rentals, protocols, administration, and support with analysis
  • REDCap survey development
  • Scannable paper forms such as the Arizona Food Frequency Questionnaire (AFFQ)
  • Short Physical Performance Battery and Strength Testing

Behavioral Interventions

  • Tailored participant educational materials
  • Real-time Short Message Service (SMS) response
  • Health coaching and fidelity monitoring

  • Provided training opportunities to 22 undergraduates and 6 graduate students over last 3 years
