Dr. Koshy investigates how the parasite Toxoplasma gondii evades the brain’s inflammatory response, allowing it to persist in the brains of humans and rodents. By uncovering these molecular mechanisms, the Koshy Lab aims to enhance treatments for toxoplasmosis and explore new approaches to treat brain disorders where inflammation is a key factor, including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and stroke. Dr. Koshy conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University in the Boothroyd lab, where she established an in vivo system for permanently marking and tracking host cells that have interacted with Toxoplasma gondii.
