Charles Hsu, MD, PhD, has been selected as medical director of the University of Arizona Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office. This appointment fills a role previously held by Rachna Shroff, MD, MS, FASCO, who is now serving as associate director of clinical investigations for the Cancer Center.

“We thank Dr. Shroff for her service as the CTO medical director at UACC and for all that she was able to accomplish,” said Cancer Center Director, Joann Sweasy. “To say she’s worn a few hats simultaneously is an understatement. We’re delighted that she will continue to serve as Associate Director of Clinical Investigations.” Shroff began serving as medical director of the clinical trials office in May 2019, was appointed as associate director of clinical investigations in April 2022 and has held both positions concurrently until now.

“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Hsu to the team,” Sweasy said. “He has a great breadth of experience that will be invaluable to UACC as we grow and find new ways to provide the best clinical trials to our catchment area and focus on making real progress in addressing health disparities.”

Hsu is a member of the Clinical and Translational Oncology Program at the Cancer Center. He received his bachelor’s with high honors from Princeton, followed by a Fulbright Fellowship and earned his medical degree and doctorate from Johns Hopkins. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in cancer epidemiology with the World Health Organization and an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He undertook his residency at the University of California-San Francisco where he also served as Chief Resident.
