Skin Cancer Institute–Education and training

The goal of education and training within the Skin Cancer Institute is to provide people with the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to bring sun safety, and skin cancer prevention and detection messages into the community. We aim to reduce skin cancer in Arizona by promoting public awareness of the disease.

Education and training activities include

  • Image

Hosting educational events open to the community

  • Providing educational materials to individuals, schools and other organizations
  • Sun-safety training for students, educators and health care professionals
  • Program development for organizations whose employees are at high risk for skin cancer

In 2024, the Skin Cancer Institute received the “Excellence in Cancer Awareness” award from the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This award is given to those who demonstrate an indisputable commitment to cancer prevention through education, outreach, and awareness. The SCI was recognized for its commitment to increasing sun safety awareness and skin cancer prevention.
