Cancer Focus
I am drug delivery scientist by training and my research is focused on the drug repurposing and reformulation for the improved therapy of acute myeloid leukemia, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers and early-stage bladder cancer. More specifically, we are interested in repurposing and reformulation of anthelmintic benzimidazoles and antidiabetic biguanides for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia, early-stage bladder cancer and skin cancers.Currently, I collaborate with Penn State Cancer Institute and UVA Cancer Center for developing new therapies for acute myeloid leukemia. However, I would like to establish collaborations within the UACC for AML therapies. I just received a seed grant from UACC Skin Cancer Institute to develop novel phenformin nano formulations for the treatment of melanoma. I will be collaborating with Dr. Wondrak, Dr. Dickinson and Dr. Curiel to develop new therapies for the treatment of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
