Cancer center member recognized as Arizona Bioscience Researcher of the Year

Melissa Herbst-Kralovetz, PhD, University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center member, professor of basic medical sciences, as well as obstetrics and gynecology at the U of A College of Medicine – Phoenix, has been named the 2025 Arizona Bioscience Researcher of the Year by the Arizona Bioindustry Association.
“What sets her apart is her relentless pursuit of translational solutions and innovations that directly address critical gaps in women’s health care, especially among underserved populations,” said Jennifer Barton, PhD, Interim Vice Provost for Health Programs at the University of Arizona and U of A Cancer Center member.
Herbst-Kralovetz is an internationally-recognized researcher known for her impactful work in translational women's health. Some of her recent projects include her research on the vaginal microbiome and mucosal immunity for early detection and prevention of gynecologic diseases, and a research program focused on understanding host-microbe interactions in the female reproductive tract and their relationship to gynecologic and oncologic health outcomes.
