Cancer center member appointed to leadership position with National Academy of Medicine

University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center member, Setsuko K. Chambers, MD, professor and division director of gynecologic oncology in the College of Medicine - Tucson, has been appointed by the National Academy of Medicine as vice-chair for the Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology section. This four-year appointment includes two years as vice chair, followed by two years as chair. Chambers will be the sole representative for her field as a National Academy of Medicine section leader for the next four years.
Chambers is the Bobbi Olson Endowed Chair of Ovarian Cancer Research and professor and director of gynecologic oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Since joining the College of Medicine – Tucson and the U of A Cancer Center in 2004, she has directed women’s cancers for a decade, founded the cancer center tumor biorepository, and established the High-Risk Genetics Clinic. She also served as program co-leader of the Cancer Biology Program for five years and as vice chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for 10 years, contributing significantly to research, patient care, and leadership in women’s health. Chambers serves as a gynecologic oncologist with Banner Health, the university's clinical partner. With just over 2,400 members, National Academy of Medicine affiliation represents one of the highest distinctions in health and medicine, and Chambers said she is honored to serve in this leadership role for the academy.
