Dear Friends,

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural issue of Convergence, the newly reimagined newsletter from the University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center. Each month, Convergence will showcase how our researchers and clinicians are working across disciplines—spanning engineering, computer science, cell biology, psychology, and more—to pioneer innovative approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

This collaborative approach, known as convergent science, goes beyond traditional multidisciplinary work. It represents a true integration of diverse fields to achieve breakthroughs that would be impossible in isolation. From wearable devices that predict heart attacks to smart sensors that analyze moles for cancer, and AI-powered digital twins that model tumors (or patients) and help personalize care strategies—we are witnessing the future of research and medicine unfold.

And this is just the beginning. With nearly five decades of impact, and a home at a top public research institution, the University of Arizona Comprehensive Cancer Center is uniquely positioned to lead in this space. Our vision is bold: to bend the curve of progress towards more prevention, more treatments, more cures, and more survivors in our state, region and nation.
Thank you for joining us on this journey.

Warm regards,
Dan Theodorescu, MD, PhD
