2024 UACC Annual Scientific Retreat
The University of Arizona Cancer Center hosted the 2024 UACC Annual Scientific Retreat on Nov. 15 at the Health Sciences Innovation Building. Approximately 180 researchers and scientists attended this year's conference featuring Amelie Ramirez, DrPH, professor and chair of the Department of Population Health Sciences and director of the Institute for Health Promotion Research at UT Health San Antonio.
Ramirez is internationally recognized for her insights and expertise in addressing health disparities in Latino populations. She shared eye-opening discoveries from her career in her talk, "Optimizing Cancer Health in Southwest Populations."
This year also introduced the first lightning round poster presentation. Twenty students gave three-minute presentations on their research, followed by a poster session where attendees could learn more about their projects.
The annual scientific retreat provides a platform for researchers and scientists to inform, engage, and collaborate while working towards the UACC mission to alleviate the burden of cancer in Arizona, particularly in underserved populations, including Hispanics and Native Americans.
