Yale professor Dr. Valentina Greco to lead upcoming Collaborative Cancer Ground Rounds
On May 17, Valentina Greco, PhD, the Carolyn Walch Slayman Professor of Genetics at Yale University, will lead the next Collaborative Cancer Ground Rounds on “Principles of Tissue Dynamics and Function Captured by Imaging Live Mice: The Power of Multiple Lenses.”
Greco is a professor in the cell biology and dermatology departments, and she is a member of the Yale Stem Cell Center and Yale Cancer Center.
“I hope to connect with people through the excitement the members of my team and I feel in using visually driven research to understand how cells behave in a living mouse,” said Greco regarding the CCGR discussion. “We understand these cell behaviors as expression of the architectures and principles that govern the tissues these cells inhabit, much like human behaviors are an expression of the systems and structures in which they are embedded, for example, in a lab or an organization.”
In the Greco lab, researchers developed novel tools that integrate imaging of stem cells in their niche in live mice with both genetic and cell biological approaches to develop a better understanding of the complex orchestration of tissue regeneration using the skin as a model system.
“We are passionate about understanding the mechanisms that govern communication and cooperation in order to sustain function over a lifetime,” Greco said.
Greco was recommended by Cancer Center member Nathan Ellis, PhD, associate professor in cellular and molecular medicine and the Cancer Biology Graduate Interdisciplinary Program, co-leader of the Cancer Biology Research Professor, and chair of the Genetics Graduate Interdisciplinary Program.
