Graduate Students gain experience for their next career stages through the University of Arizona Cancer Center's professional development activities and training programs.
Activities Led by the Office of Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC)
A 6-11 month process supporting students whose projects have a cancer focus in developing highly competitive NIH Fellowship Award (F30/31) applications to fund their dissertation research. The program teaches students how to turn their research strategy into a highly competitive mentored training application, and builds early confidence and skill in their ability to successfully compete for research funding. The program complements the Cancer Biology IMB 521 course.
Students receive and participate in:
- An Introduction to F Award Grantsmanship workshop
- Monthly 1-hour sessions breaking down each required element of the application
- 1:1 support from CRTEC grant writer in writing, editing, and submitting the proposal
- Structured peer and professional review
For more information, please contact CRTEC Grant Writer, Carol Carpenter at crcarpenter@arizona.edu.
Provide funds for trainees to present at cancer-relevant conferences, learn new techniques in collaborator's laboratory, or attend workshops or short courses.
